The Skills of Tomorrow Are Built Today — and They Start From Within
Recently at TEDx Patras, a truly thought-provoking conversation took place under the title “Skills of Tomorrow – Building the Skills of the Future Today.”
Four dynamic women in leadership roles across technology and human development came together to explore a question that has been on the minds of professionals for years: Which skills will truly matter in the future — and what does it mean to cultivate them consciously?
When we hear the word “future”, most people think of technology, AI, data, automation. And indeed, these are part of our everyday reality.
But they’re not the whole picture. This conversation brought something deeper to the surface: technology may be advancing, but what truly sets us apart is our human element.
The Skills You Won’t See on a Resume
Eufrosyni Thalassinou, who leads Employee Development and Engagement at Antenna Group, spoke about adaptability, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
It’s no coincidence that these three skills are closely tied to our mindset — how we view change, whether we choose to grow, learn, and keep moving forward.
Eleni Aktypi, Managing Director of WE LEAD, brought her clarity and career transition experience to highlight two rarely taught but highly impactful skills: influence and active listening.
In a world where authority isn’t a given, inspiring others — and truly listening instead of just preparing a response — is a powerful strategic advantage.
And What About AI? Is There Still Room for the Human?
That was the question posed to Despoina Kitsou, Senior Product Manager at Nokia. Her answer was crystal clear:
As artificial intelligence evolves, so does the need for hybrid skills. It’s not enough to be purely technical or only communicative.
Tomorrow’s professionals need to combine both: to think with precision and feel with depth. To turn data into experiences. Information into decisions.
Where Does Coaching Fit In?
Maria Papazoglou, founder of mentorascoach.com, a company specializing in coaching and training focused on mindset and soft skills for career success and fulfillment, shared her perspective.
Not only as a coach, but also as a professional who has changed paths three times — always driven by what excites her and gives her a sense of purpose.
“In a coaching session, we work on something technology simply can’t do for us: cultivating self-awareness, inner guidance, and authentic decision-making.
We develop our own ‘human compass’ — so that every change, no matter how intimidating, becomes a doorway to growth.”
Our Authentic Imprint
As the conversation ended, one powerful thought was shared — and it’s one I want you to take with you:
In a world full of bots and automated content, authenticity is the new currency of trust.
Authenticity isn’t a skill. It’s a way of living. And it can be nurtured.
When we invest in ourselves — through coaching, therapy, or intentional learning — we create the space for something truly unique to emerge: our personal identity.
Instead of an Epilogue: A Question for You
What skill are you working on right now?
And what’s driving you to develop it?
Feel free to leave a comment or send me a message — I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Because the future is built through dialogue. With intention. And with the belief that the next version of ourselves is already within us.
